INFORMATION ON THE FIELDS OF STUDY OF THE POLICE ACADEMY IN SZCZYTNO, A GRADUATE PROFILE

First degree studies in the field of "Internal Security".

The aim of the studies in the field of "Internal Security" is to prepare highly-qualified specialists to work in government and local government services in positions related to team management in crisis situations, natural disasters and threats to the state, as well as to support state services in improving the professional qualifications of their officers in the conditions of ongoing legal changes and the need for in-depth analysis of emerging new types of threats.

The  graduate of the "Internal Security" programme will have basic knowledge in the field of social sciences, human rights and principles of state functioning. He or she will learn the basics of extensive legal knowledge regulating the areas related to internal security, as well as acquire knowledge in the field of internal security related to the state security system, crisis management system and the problems of various types of crime.  The graduate will also be able to solve simple professional problems, participate in teamwork, manage small human teams performing commissioned tasks. An important aspect of the studies is the training of a pro-social attitude manifested in the understanding of individual and group expectations in the field of safety guarantees, and taking appropriate action to achieve them.

TYPE OF CANDIDATE WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE STUDIES

For admission to the first degree studies in the field of " Internal Security" may apply a candidate having a secondary school certificate, i.e.:

- a civilian person;

- an officer and a civilian employee of the Police and an officer and an employee of other formations and organizational units subordinated to or supervised by the minister  in charge of internal affairs, a person who was sent to study at the Police Academy in Szczytno.

Studies are conducted in a full- time and a part- time form. First degree studies last 3 years.

Full-time studies for the Police officers and employees, as well as the officers and employees of other formations and organizational units subordinate to or supervised by the minister of internal affairs, who have been sent to study at the Police Academy, are conducted in the form of weekly sessions; for civilians, they are of continuous character.

Part-time studies are conducted in the form of weekend sessions (Saturday-Sunday).

First degree studies in the field of "Criminology".

The aim of education in the field of criminology  is a comprehensive preparation of the graduate to work in law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, as well as other services and organizations, including, among others: local educational boards, social welfare centres, family assistance centres or crisis intervention centres. The objectives also include equipping the graduate with general knowledge in the area of social sciences, especially in the area of legal sciences, criminology, victimology, rehabilitation and in the area of criminal and social policy.

The graduate of  the Criminology faculty  is able to explain the phenomenon of crime in general and as particular types. He or she is prepared to analyse the interrelationships between the functioning of public and social institutions, and is able to identify and independently solve theoretical and practical problems related to criminology and criminal law. The graduate uses theoretical knowledge in practice during student internships that take place in law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, as well as other services and organizations such as: local educational boards, social welfare centres or other institutions serving the aggrieved people.

TYPE OF CANDIDATE WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE STUDIES

For admission to the first degree studies in the field of "Criminology" may apply a candidate having a secondary school certificate, i.e.:

- a civilian person;

- a Police officer and an employee of the Police, as well as an officer and an employee of other formations and organizational units subordinated to or supervised by the minister in charge of internal affairs, a person who was sent to study at the Police Academy in Szczytno.

MODE OF STUDY CONDUCT

Studies are conducted in stationary and non-stationary form. First degree studies last 3 years.

Full-time studies for the Police officers and employees, as well as the officers and employees of other formations and organizational units subordinate to or supervised by the minister of internal affairs, who have been sent to study at the Police Academy, are conducted in the form of weekly sessions; for civilians, they are of continuous character.

Part-time studies are conducted in the form of weekend sessions (Saturday-Sunday).

First degree studies in the field of "Police Studies".

NOTE: The studies are intended only for Polish police officers.

The first degree studies of the practical profile, "Police Studies" at the Police Academy in Szczytno are addressed to people, who are planning their professional career in the police service. The studies last 4 years. The graduates receive a Bachelor's degree. In addition, graduates are eligible to take an exam for a commissioned police officer, a positive result of which will be a basis for promotion to the lowest rank in corps of the middle-ranking police officers.

TYPE OF CANDIDATE WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE STUDIES

Studies in the field of "Police Studies" are dedicated to people who are new to police service - to police officers. A candidate can be a person, who has successfully completed the selection procedure for service in the Police, i.e. has been included in the list of candidates for service, approved by the superior in charge of the selection procedure.

A candidate for studies can be a person for whom a basic vocational training has not been initiated yet. Candidates declare their willingness to undertake studies in this field by submitting an additional statement to the Police Selection Unit (a declaration of intention if they pass the selection procedure). An equally important requirement is a secondary school leaving certificate, which will be necessary at the recruitment stage at the Police Academy in Szczytno.

MODE OF STUDY CONDUCT

Studies are conducted in a full-time form at the Police Academy in Szczytno.

During the first year of studies, students - police officers implement issues identical with the curriculum of basic vocational training.

First degree studies in the field of "Forensic Science for Law Enforcement".

INFORMATION ABOUT THE FIELD OF STUDY, PROFILE OF THE GRADUATE

The aim of education in the field of Forensic Science for Law Enforcement is to prepare qualified specialists with comprehensive knowledge in the area of detection, preservation, and examination of traces and evidence of crimes, offenses, as well as civil and administrative wrongdoings, for work in the broad field of public administration — particularly in law enforcement agencies. Education in this field of study is an important element of enhancing professional qualifications of officers of state services in active service (including the Police, Border Guard, National Tax Administration, Military Gendarmerie, etc.) in the context of ongoing legal changes and the necessity to deepen knowledge in the field of modern technologies and tools used in forensic science.

The graduate of Forensic Science for Law Enforcement programme will possess the knowledge, skills, and social competencies desirable for employment in various institutions and services of the public sector (particularly in law enforcement and the justice system), as well as the non-public sector (non-governmental organisations and businesses) in charge of tasks related to forensic science, including combating security threats and maintaining public order. The graduate will be equipped with advanced knowledge in the field of legal, social, and other sciences relevant to forensic science.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES WHO ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY PROGRAMME

In order to apply for admission to undergraduate studies in the field of Forensic Science for Law Enforcement, the candidate must hold a secondary school-leaving certificate, and be:

• Police officer or employee of the Police, as well as an officer or employee of other forces and organisational units subordinate to or supervised by the minister responsible for internal affairs, who has obtained an approval to undertake studies at the Police Academy in Szczytno.

The studies are conducted as a full-time and part-time programme. The undergraduate programme lasts for 3 years.

The full-time studies for officers and employees of the Police, as well as officers and employees of other forces and organisational units subordinate to or supervised by the minister responsible for internal affairs, who have obtained an approval to undertake studies at the Police Academy in Szczytno, are conducted in the form of weekly sessions.

ADMINISTRATION IN SECURITY

INFORMATION ABOUT THE FIELD OF STUDY, PROFILE OF THE  GRADUATE

The aim of education in the field of study "Administration in security" is to develop an ability to use knowledge in the social sciences, especially legal sciences and security sciences.

A graduate of the first-cycle degree programme: “Administration in Security” possesses theoretical knowledge, practical skills and social competences that enable him/her to apply for positions in a local government administration, administration of justice and legal protection bodies, as well as to manage larger groups of employees, to make responsible decisions in the field of internal and external communication. The graduate is equipped with an expanded knowledge of the nature of legal and security sciences as leading scientific disciplines.

He/she is fully familiar with the terminology used within the administration (including legal categories), understands its sources and applications within related scientific disciplines. He/she is able to indicate the characteristics of organisational and legal forms of administration entities operating in the public sphere, distinguish their role and tasks as well as their significance in the functioning of social, economic and political processes.

THE TYPE OF CANDIDATE WHO CAN APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDIES

To apply for the first-cycle degree studies in the field of "Administration in security" are eligible police officers and employees who are secondary school graduates and who have been granted a referral to study at the Police Academy in Szczytno.

CYBERSECURITY

INFORMATION ABOUT THE FIELD OF STUDY, PROFILE OF THE  GRADUATE

The aim of the education in the "Cybersecurity" field of study is to prepare highly qualified professionals for work in law enforcement agencies dealing with cybercrime and in public administration units that carry out tasks in the field of cyber security, as well as those who wish to improve their qualifications in the dynamically developing digital world. The second-cycle degree programme conducted at the Police Academy in Szczytno in the field of ‘Cybersecurity’ is addressed to all graduates of first-cycle degree programme whose current and expected work (service) will be related to cybersecurity in the broad sense and cybercrime combat.

The graduate of the second-cycle degree programme in 'Cybersecurity' will have knowledge of fighting crime in cyberspace and securing evidence in the digital environment. He/she will be familiar with the functionality of forensic analysis software, both central units and mobile devices. He or she will know how to carry out an analysis of the particular elements of the operating system structure, as well as will be familiar with software and hardware systems used to prevent and detect hacking. He or she will understand the operation of anonymising networks and the various elements of their functioning. He/she will learn the principles of cryptocurrency financial markets and the functionality of tools for analysing and tracking selected virtual money. The graduate will study cloud computing technologies, their legal regulations and solutions that are relevant to the extraction of evidence of criminal activity from cloud computing. He/she will know the organisation and functioning of entities responsible for security and public order matters. The studies will allow the graduate to acquire knowledge in the social sciences. The graduate will also be introduced to selected issues of sociotechnics and social engineering, as well as the social identity of the Internet user and negative social phenomena related to informatization.

To apply for admission to the second-cycle degree programme in the field of "Cybersecurity" are eligible police officers and employees involved in preventing and combating cybercrime who have been referred to study at the Police Academy in Szczytno.

SECOND DEGREE STUDIES – available to civilians and all sworn personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland

Field of study:  Internal Security

duration of the study:

• full-time (a 2-year course, four semesters)
• extra-mural (a 2-year course, four semesters)

The Internal Security studies are aimed at preparing highly-skilled specialists for work in state agencies and local authorities on positions related to team management in emergency situations, during natural disasters, and dealing with state security threats, as well as for supporting state agencies (the Police, Customs, and the Border Guard) in raising their professional skills with regard to the constantly changing law and the necessity for a thorough analysis of the newly-emerged threats (i.e. terrorism, cyber-terrorism);

The Internal Security second degree studies at the Police Academy in Szczytno are directed to all individuals who have successfully completed a first degree course and whose current or prospective job (or service) is related to internal security in a broad sense.

 Field of study: Criminology

• employees and officers of the Police as well as officers and employees of other formations and organisational units subordinated to or supervised by the minister in charge of internal affairs and administration, who have been assigned to study at the Police Academy

- full-time (2 years, i.e. four semesters)

The field of study Criminology is interdisciplinary, allowing the student to obtain a broad knowledge of the human being, society and law. The didactic process includes theoretical and practical issues related to crime and social pathologies. The curriculum focuses on the causes and manifestations of social pathologies, as well as methods of detecting, preventing and combating crime. In addition, it covers issues related to the methods of implementation of restorative justice and providing assistance to victims. The curriculum, apart from general, basic and major subjects, includes four thematic modules: curatorial module, social pathologies module, penitentiary module, and police module.

A graduate of the "criminology" field of study is prepared to work in the broadly understood justice system: in the judiciary, the prosecutor's office, the Prison Service, the Police, the Municipal Police; in the poviat starosty offices - Poviat Family Assistance Centres, Crisis Intervention Centres, as well as in social welfare centres and non-governmental organizations.

"Criminology" is a modern and innovative field of study.
